School Counselor
School counselors are certified/licensed educators who improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors deliver developmentally appropriate activities and services directly to students or indirectly for students as a result of the school counselor’s interaction with others. These activities and services help students develop the ASCA Student Standards: Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success and improve their achievement, attendance and discipline. Through the school counseling program, school counselors ensure equitable academic, career and social/emotional development opportunities for all students.
Direct services are in-person interactions between school counselors and students and include classroom Life Skills, small group support, and individual support. Indirect services are provided on behalf of students as a result of the school counselors’ interactions with other stakeholders including consultation, collaboration, and referrals.
The mission of the Hudson Prairie Elementary school counseling program is to provide all students with access to an equitable comprehensive school counseling program that helps all students achieve their academic and personal success. The school counseling program uses data to provide students access to services to close achievement, attendance, and behavior gaps for equitable outcomes. The comprehensive, student-centered school counseling program delivers activities that promote positive academic, career, and social/emotional development to all students.
School Counselor Beliefs:
- All students can learn and should receive equitable, quality education and support for their personal, social, academic, and career growth.
- All students are unique and should be treated as individuals in their academic and social/emotional journey.
- All students should feel valued and safe so their academic and emotional readiness is nurtured and they become ready to make impactful changes as caring contributors in the world.

Congratulations to Aria Krieser, Hudson Prairie Elementary School Counselor, for being awarded the Wisconsin School Counselor Association (WSCA) Program of Promise! This award recognizes Mrs. Krieser's outstanding leadership, which was demonstrated by the impact of her data-driven school counseling program.
As part of her work, Mrs. Krieser identified a need to reduce Office Discipline Referrals (ODRs) related to physical aggression among fourth-grade students. Data revealed a disproportionately high number of referrals for this grade, indicating that students needed additional support in developing coping strategies and problem-solving skills for appropriate behavior at school. In response, Mrs. Krieser delivered evidence-based classroom lessons focused on safe school behaviors to all fourth-grade students. As a result of this targeted, data-informed school counseling intervention, ODRs for physical aggression decreased by 92% for this grade.
